Snow White Revisited;
A Modern Woman’s Fairy Tale
By Tracie Bolack

There once was a vivacious young woman named Snow, living in the city of Cosmopolitan. Though she was poor, she felt rich with all that Cosmopolitan offered her; museums to visit, books to be read, arts to be absorbed and the vibrancy of life thrumming all around her. She was bright and talented and interested in everything. Unfortunately, she had no family left to care for her and her only skill was the ability to sew. She always loved to sew, but modern manufacturing in the city of Cosmopolitan made it a dying art and offered her no employment. Finally, the landlord had enough of Snow not paying the rent and sued her in a court of law.

Having no other recourse, Snow threw herself on the mercy of the court.

The Judge, thinking her a hot little number, offered her a plea option. If she would agree to live with him, he would throw the charges out of the court. He said, “I’m a big man around here, and I have the power to remove you from the unfortunate situation you find yourself in. Snow, if you will live with me and care for my needs, you will want for nothing. You would be lucky enough to live in a penthouse with a park view, and buy whatever you like. Though the services I will require of you must be at my convenience, and on my schedule, since I am a very busy man.”

Snow’s reply was “Thanks for the uh, business proposition but truth is, I don’t even know you and can hardly live with a stranger.” “Have it your way” said the Judge, “And live with strangers you will. I hereby sentence you to live out your days in the service of the commune for The Vertically Challenged, located in the Middle of Nowhere.”

She had been sentenced to the Middle of Nowhere with some tiny men; seven tiny men to be exact. Their names were Competent, Confident, Caring, Considerate, Sensitive, Sexy and Wise. And they were so efficient at running things around Nowhere that Snow was left without much to do. Competent and Considerate took care of all household duties, while meeting her every whim and need, Sensitive and Caring were available to anyone who needed a shoulder to cry on or just listen, Sexy would mow the lawn with his little shirt off and pick her roses, while Wise would knowingly nod his head in contentment that all was well in the Middle of Nowhere. Needing to fill her time and be productive in some way, Snow decided to express her affection by sewing garments for these wonderful little men who collectively, made Nowhere a nice place to be.

The tiny men really liked the clothes she would make for them! Before Snow came, inseams were never quite right, sleeves were always too long and a proper fit had never been part of Nowhere’s apparel. They started to wear them all the time and everyone else who had been banished, wandered into, or chose to live in the Middle of Nowhere liked the garments too. Soon the little men wore nothing else exclusive of SnowWear.

Before long the middle of nowhere became the hub of fashion; establishing the House of Snow into the multi-million dollar fashion label of the day. The employee base grew to well over 700 little men, with Snow the CEO happily leading the helm. Co-incidentally, the Middle of Nowhere also became a great place to go to absorb the arts, read great books and soak in the thrumming life all around it.

There are several reasons why I made changes to the traditional story of Snow White. As a modern woman, I refuse to write anything that would include women against women (there are no evil stepmothers here).

It is no coincidence that the story is a tongue in cheek peek into the “economics” of marriage. I wanted Snow to be proud of her independence; not only to embrace it, but also protect it. While satire would suggest that it takes seven men to make one perfect one, I simply named them according to qualities that the perfect man (to me) would possess.

Finally, I firmly believe that home is where you make it and so, our dear girl must be rewarded with her happy ending for following her heart and being true to herself; as I still like to think we all will be in the end.

Ashton
The story of a Boy, and his wicked Step-Father

Once upon a time, there was a very wealthy king who lived in a beautiful castle. He was the most powerful man in all of his land. He soon married a beautiful lady and made her his queen. Together, they had a handsome baby boy whom they called Ashton. When Ashton returned from school one day, he went up the stairs to his castle where he heard his father groaning from agony and pain. His father had a stroke and died right there before his feet. A few years later, the Queen remarried. Ashton hated his new step-father, for he was evil and overbearing. He also brought with him his two sons, who were just like their father - evil. One year later, on Ashton’s 10th Birthday, his mother suddenly died from an unknown cause. Ashton was distraught, for he had lost his dear loved mother, and know was forced to live with his evil step-father and his two sons.
Day in and day out, the poor boy was harassed by his step-father and step-brothers, mostly because of their jealousy. He had to cook and clean for everyone in the house, had to mow the lawn, shovel the snow, rake the leaves, clean the chimney, and so much more. He was a slave in his step-fathers eyes. Ashton wore holey hand-me-downs and nothing of his own. He even ate the scraps of food from what his step-brothers didn’t want. At night time, Ashton would go up to his dirty, ashy attic and go to sleep until he would be abruptly woken up for another days hard tasks.
One morning, there was an announcement that there would be a ball in honor of the princess trying to wed. Of course, Ashton wanted to go, but had nothing to wear, and too many chores to do. As Ashton was sitting alone by himself, something extraordinary happened. A fairy god father appeared right before Ashton’s eyes and told him to go to the ball at once. Ashton replied, “I can’s show up at the ball like this, I am dressed in rags.” With the wink of an eye and a flick of his magic wand, Ashton was dressed in a slick, black tuxedo. His hair was gelled back and he wore the shiniest of black shoes. But that wasn’t all he had in store for him, the fairy god father ordered Ashton to get him a pumpkin, a few mice which would soon be turned into a beautiful white limousine with a driver and escort. The god father reminded Ashton to be home by midnight, because at curfew, everything would change back to the way it was. Ashton went into the limo, arrived at the ball and had a splendid time, for he danced with the beautiful princess in private. As they were dancing, the clock struck midnight, and Ashton jolted away to return home. All that the princess could remember Ashton by was his shinny black shoe.
As Ashton was cleaning the next morning thinking about the amazing night he had at the ball with the princess, there was a knock at the door. It was one of the princess’ assistants who had the shinny black shoe in his hand. He told the men of the house to come at once to try this shoe on so the princess could find her lover. The two step brothers ran in and tried to fit the shoe, but their feet were just too small. Then, as the man went to leave, Ashton peeked out of his filthy attic and asked if he could try the shoe on; he proceeded, and it in fact fit. The princess’ assistants brought Ashton to the castle and as he was walking into one of the rooms, his fairy god father appeared again, and instantly put on the black tux, and gave him the other shinny black shoe. He walked up to the Princess, they both gazed in each others eyes, and soon married right there in the castle, where they lived happily ever after.

The story of Cinderella has many motifs or elements in it. There is jealousy amongst Cinderella and her step-mother and sisters, there is sibling rivalry, there are desist parents, a curfew, beauty, a festive, the search for a prince, evil step-sisters and mother, a savior, and more. In my version of Cinderella, I chose to use a male character, Ashton. The reason why I chose a male character for Cinderella was to allow this story and lesson to be suitable for boys also. The reason why I had a male character for the step mother was to take evilness away from women. In so many movies and fairytales, there are always evil women. Why can’t a story have a man doing something terrible and wicked? One of the reasons why I had a Princess instead of a Prince, and a Queen who started out the fairytale instead of a King, was to be more realistically thinking about the society in which we live in today. In the past, men were the most dominant. As time goes by, women are becoming more equal to men and many aspects, including power. I made this play to be more suitable for the time period that we are in.

One day a mother Falcon sent her three babies on their way to start their own lives.
The first Falcon passed a fox that was gathering straw. The Falcon said “Please Fox, lend me some straw so I can build myself a nest.” The fox gave the Falcon some straw. Once the Falcon finished his nest, a lonely, angry human came along, who was very hungry since he has not been able to find food. The human said licking his lips, “Little Falcon, Little Falcon, let me come in.” The Falcon replied “No way. Not by the hair on my chinney chin chin.”
The human replied, “Then I will huff and I’ll puff and I’ll blow your nest down.” The Falcon, who was quick to think spread his wings and began to flap as fast as he could. The wind from the human was quickly stopped by the wind made from the Falcon’s flapping that his nest was unharmed. The human tried and tried again, but it was no use. The Falcon’s flapping was too much and the human got tired and left.
The second Falcon on his way to starting his life, passed a fox who was gathering sticks. The Falcons asked “Please Fox, lend me some sticks so I can build myself a nest.” The fox gave the Falcon some sticks to build a nest. Just as he finished, along came the human that had tried to get his first brother. The human said “Little Falcon, Little Falcon, let me come in.” The Falcon replied “No way. Not by the hair on my chinney chin chin.”
The human replied, “Then I will huff and I’ll puff and I’ll blow your nest down.” The Falcon, who was very good with his words said “Wait! Human, if you can get this riddle right, then will you agree to leave my nest alone?” The human thinking how smart can a Falcon be agreed. The Falcon said, “I have two coins that total thirty cents. One of the coins is not a nickel. What two coins do I have?” The human thought really hard for two whole hours. He was very embarrassed and said, “This is not possible! There are no two coins that equal thirty cents that are not nickels.” The Falcon replied, “I am quite sorry but you are incorrect. The answer is a quarter and a nickel. I only said that ONE of the coins was not a nickel.” The human was very angry, but since he had agreed to leave the nest alone, he left.
The third Falcon on his travels to find the perfect place for a nest found a fox collecting stones. The Falcon asked “Please Fox, let me have some stones so I can build a nest.” The fox gave the Falcon some stones and he built his nest. Just as he finished along came the human. The human still angry from the last encounters with Falcons decided to give this Falcon a try. He said “Little Falcon, Little Falcon, let me come in.” The Falcon replied, “No way. Not by the hair of my chinney chin chin.” The human decided to go about this a different way. He then invited the Falcon out to the best place to find kielbasa. He said “Little Falcon, I know a place that has the most delicious Polish kielbasa you’ll ever sink your beak into. It is over the hill and past the cottage. Meet me there tomorrow at 7:00pm and we can feast!” The Falcon knew what the human was up to, but agreed to the meeting. The next day at 7:00pm the Falcon flew over the hill and past the cottage. He found the human busy cooking at a grill. He was cooking kielbasa that smelled so delicious that the Falcon landed and took a seat at the table near by. The human snuck behind the Falcon and was just about to capture him when he took off running. The human started to chase after him. Over the hill, jumping rocks and climbing walls. The distance was so long and soon the human was too tired to continue the chase. The Falcon, being in such good physical fitness was able to outrun the human and made it back to his nest safely.
The next day the three Falcon brothers all met up at a pond. While sharing their stories, the human came up from behind and threw a net over all three Falcons. The human cried out “Ha! I finally caught you all. Now I shall eat you all as I had planned to do from the beginning and no one can stop me.” Once the human got to his house and set the net down the third Falcon sunk his teeth into the net and was able to bite the ropes open. The three Falcons flew out of the net, and then the second Falcon exclaimed as they flew by the human “you will never hold us down, and you will never be able to eat us.” The first Falcon then used the broken rope to tie up the human by his feet and told him to leave the Falcons alone, and if he didn’t, he would be sorry. The human was never seen again.

This story was written in this manner because my audience is my gym class. I belong to a fraternal organization called the Polish Falcons of America. This is why I chose to change the pigs to falcons. The falcon is an animal that symbolizes independence, strength and fearlessness. It is also very famous in song and story in Poland. The organization I belong aims with its many programs and activities, to improve the physical, mental and social condition of its members, young and old alike. This is represented by the three different falcons. The first falcon demonstrates mental awareness to get out of his situation with the human while the second uses social and the third uses physical. At the end the birds are only truly victorious when they come together and combine their strengths to succeed. This is what my organization strives to teach kids. The writing of this fairy tale was for my kids, who I try to teach this lesson to every week through my coaching techniques. A sound mind in a sound body, “Wzdrowym ciele zdrowy duch.”

Fairy Tale

Little Red Hood
Once upon a time, there was a little girl sitting at a kitchen table watching her mother cook dinner. The mother turned to the daughter angrily and told her that she needed to bring some aspirin to her Grandmother, because she was simply too busy at the moment. The mother never seemed happy, but this did not bother the little girl. Bringing the aspirin was no problem for the girl, because her Grandmother lived very close, just a ten minute walk through the woods in her back yard.
Before the girl set off, she grabbed a red hooded sweatshirt and put it on because it was very chilly outside and it looked like it may snow. She also placed the hood on her head because it was quite windy. The girl placed the aspirin in the front pouch of the sweatshirt and set off out the back door. About five minutes into the walk, the girl heard a rustling sound from a nearby bush up ahead. She dismissed the noise, thinking it was only the wind, and continued to walk. As she approached the bush, the rustling noise sounded again, and out jumped a wolf right in front of the little girl. The girl froze in her tracks, stunned to her spot, but did not let out a scream. Standing upright, the Wolf said,
“And just where are you headed today?”
The girl’s jaw dropped in amazement.
“Did you just talk to me?” said the little girl.
“Of course I did. Are you telling me you’ve never seen a talking wolf before?” said the Wolf.
“No, I didn’t know wolves could talk.” said the girl.
“Sure we can. Not all wolves, only special one’s like me. Anyways, where are you going?” spoke the Wolf.
The little girl paused for a moment, but was in such shock, that she spoke without any caution at all.
“I’m going to my grandmother’s house right through these woods to give her this aspirin because she isn’t feeling very well.” said the girl.
“Oh, I see. Right through these woods? Well, good luck.” and the Wolf scampered off so suddenly that the girl stood there for another minute, still trying to process what she had just seen.
With the Wolf out of sight the girl continued on and finally arrived at her Grandmother’s house. She noticed the door was cracked open, so she entered cautiously and quietly, without ringing the doorbell. The girl searched the house for her Grandmother, but she was nowhere to be found. The girl then checked the bedroom and saw a lump under the blankets which she assumed to be her Grandmother.
“Grandma, I brought you some aspirin to make you feel better.” spoke the girl.
“Just put it on the table over there, I’ll take it after. Come sit with me for a minute.” spoke a deeper-than-usual voice.
The girl walked over and sat on the bed. She glanced down and got a clear look at her Grandmother’s head.
“Grandma, your eyes look big today.”
“All the better to see you with.”
“But Grandma, even your ears looks bigger than usual.”
“All the better to hear you with.”
“Wow, Grandma, your teeth are really big and sharp!”
“All the better to eat you with!”
The Wolf then pounced on the little girl, trying to wrap its hands around her throat, but just as this happened, the bedroom door burst open and in came the girls Grandmother, who ran over to the bed and hit the Wolf on the head with a kitchen pot she was holding in her right hand. The Wolf was knocked out cold. The blankets were removed completely.
“Oh wow, it’s that talking Wolf I met in the woods!” shouted the little girl.
“That’s no Wolf.” exclaimed the Grandmother.
The girl’s Grandmother moved over to the bed and pulled a fake wolf mask off of the creature. What was revealed was shocking. It was the little girl’s mother, who was also the Grandmother’s daughter. When she finally regained consciousness, she was quickly interrogated.
“Why did you try to kill your daughter?” shouted the Grandmother.
“I simply couldn’t take it anymore. Everyone always telling me how beautiful she is. Everywhere she goes, always being complimented. What about me? No one cares about me!” exclaimed the mother.
“You’re as crazy and self-centered as your father was.” said the Grandmother.
The little girl’s mother was arrested and sent to jail. The little girl would never see her again. She would live the rest of her childhood with her grandmother, who cared for her very much, and never once tried to kill her.

Artist Statement

For my fairy tale I chose to re-do Little Red Riding Hood because I thought that it was a good tale, and that I could alter a few things about it so that it would stick to the basics, but be different at the same time.
My first goal was to make the story a little more modern. I liked reading the few different stories that we had for class, but all of them were dated well before my time, so I figured I would try to update it a little bit. One way I did this was by changing “medicine” or “food” for the grandmother into aspirin, because everyone these days uses aspirin. Next, I turned the little red hood into a red sweatshirt. This was also because sweatshirts are a very common thing today.
The second goal of my story was to add an element of surprise. In all of the Little Red Riding Hood stories, there is always the Wolf in the grandmother’s bed, which is somewhat surprising, but it is something that has been done every time. Although, I kept the Wolf in the grandmother’s bed, it turned out not to be the Wolf at all, but the girl’s jealous mother, which I thought added a whole other twist to the story.
All in all, the story I came up with was a little extreme from the other versions of the tale, however I felt that this could possibly classify it as a suspense/mystery fairy tale, instead of just a classic fairy tale. I don’t feel that I chose one specific writing technique, mainly because I wanted to story to sound modernized. I suppose the one thing I did try to focus on was foreshadowing. I spoke of how the mother was never happy, and also how the Wolf in the woods was standing on two legs. I realize it would be nearly impossible to predict the outcome, but if it were read again, the reader may pick up on these things. It was very interesting trying to write this tale, and I was one who always thought fairy tale’s seemed simple to write, however after doing this, I learned that they are certainly not.

Paper # 2
Antoniella – The Italian Version of Cinderella

Antoniella had a wonderful life. She lived on a farm in modern day Tuscany, Italy with her parents and servants. There was nothing that Antoniella’s parents would not give her. She was everything to them. Antoniella’s happy life changed when her mom became ill. Her mom died a year after being diagnosised with cancer.
The father mourned his beloved wife’s death for a year. His wife’s personal caretaker sympathized with him and tricked him into marrying her. She is a “gold digger” and only wants his money. Antoniella’s new stepmother has two daughters who are cold and calculating like their mother. The stepmother and her two daughters are jealous of Antoniella because she is beautiful. The stepdaughters are as fat as a moose and as ugly as a gorilla.
Antoniella’s stepmother brainwashes her father. She convinces him that Antoniella hates her. The stepmother tells the father to fire most of the servants and make his daughter do the work. Antoniella has to clean the house, make the sauce and pasta. She has to pick the olives to make the olive oil and pick the grapes to make the wine. Also, she has to be the personal attendant for her stepsisters.
Antoniella lives in the barn with the farm animals. The animals are her only friends, since she cannot socialize with anybody else. Her best friend is Domenic, the donkey. When life becomes so unbearable that Antoniella wants to run away, Domenic starts to talk to her. He reminds her that the mom is looking down from heaven and will take care of her.
One day an invitation came to the farm announcing that Italy’s diplomat was having a ball for his son. The son was twenty-one and by law must pick a bride. The two ugly stepsisters get dressed and go to the ball. Antoniella is left behind because she has nothing to wear. Domenic summons the heavens and out drops a beautiful gown with glass slippers. Domenic looks around to see what vehicle could bring Antoniella to the ball. He finds only a broken down 1968 Fiat 500. Domenic transforms the Fiat into an Enzo Ferrari. Antoniella is driven by a chauffeur to the ball. Everybody wants to know who the girl is with this expensive car.
The diplomat’s son comes out and takes Antoniella by the hand. They dance all night together. When midnight strikes Antoniella runs away. The prince runs after her but she disappears. Antoniella’s gown turns back into an old dress and her Ferrari back into a 1968 Fiat.
The next day the diplomat’s son goes looking for Antoniella. He tells his father this is the only girl he will marry. The son goes house to house to find the love of his life. He comes upon Antoniella’s farm. The two stepsisters try the glass slipper on while Antoniella is locked in the barn. Domenic, the donkey, opens the barn door and out runs Antoniella. She tries on the glass slipper and it fits. The stepmother becomes so angry that she takes a knife and tries to stab Antoniella in the heart. The diplomat’s son summons his two bodyguards to stop the stepmother. The stepmother is thrown into prison for attempted murder. The father also goes to prison because he tries to stop the police from taking his wife. The father is under the spell of his wife because she practices Black Magic. She put the “Evil Eye” on him, which is an Italian spell. A person must learn to cast or remove the “Evil Eye” at midnight on Christmas Eve.
The stepsisters lose the farm because there is nobody to help them. They are worthless pigs that don’t even know how to cook. The whole town hears about Antoniella’s horrible life and will not help the stepsisters. The town loved Antoniella’s mother (Atonietta) because she donated her time and money to the poor.
On the day of Antoniella’s wedding, her stepsisters come to beg her for forgiveness. Antoniella forgives them because she is her mother’s daughter. Her mom believed in the goodness of all people and would forgive people that were unkind to her. Antoniella allows the stepsisters to live in her twenty-room house, but they must be servants. Antoniella and her husband, Luigi, live happily ever after.
My goal as a writer is to mix my Italian culture with a well-known fairy tail. Domenic the Donkey is a donkey that brings Christmas gifts to children in Italy. A song was written about Domenic and can be heard on 92.5 FM and 95.7 FM at Christmas. The “Evil Eye” is believed by many Italians. When Italians have bad luck or feel ill, they believe it is the “Evil Eye.” I hope this Italian version of Cinderella helps people understand my heritage because Italians are a strong and loving culture. You cannot believe what you see on television shows like the Sopranos.

Poor Nicholas
Once upon a time there was a little boy named Nicholas, whom people called Niko, who lived in a tiny village in Greece. This boy was the runt in his family, whom has a brother and sister from one mother and the rest of his siblings from another mother. Frankly, step-sister Yana and step-brother George didn’t like how everybody loved Niko so much because he was the youngest.
Niko had to have no shoes, do all the work, and still was the best. Yana and George gave their little step-brother all their chores. They made him walk to school while they got to ride the donkey. He had to let the sheep heard in the fields a mile away all by himself. On top of this Niko had to collect all the chicken eggs, milk the goats, and feed all the animals. The worst was when he was sent from George to go pick olives out of the trees, with no shoes and many insects; he usually came home with scratches on his hands. Since the rest of the family was working when he did all this, they never saw anything bad happen to him. They all assumed he went to bed so early because he was just so tiny and got tired easily. No one knew that the Step-mother wouldn’t prepare dinner for Niko, knowing he would go to bed soon, because she didn’t want to cook earlier or else food would be cold for the rest. So, this little scrawny boy went to sleep with an empty stomach.
One day there was a bus that was going to bring the village people to the big city Athens, two hours away. Niko didn’t hear about it all day until he was in the olive trees listening to some passers and he then jumped out and ran all the way to the bus. Well they only had one seat available and he was in competition with adults, including his big boned sister and brother, Yana and George. Because of his size he was allowed to get to fill the spot. Yana and George were so upset, being how they were considered rich (even though it was just their mother’s money from their deceased father).
“George this can’t be, we can’t possibly miss the bus, and people will think we are losers if we don’t go on that trip!” Yana was saying on their way back home. George was quiet for some time trying to come up with a plan that would be cooler than the bus trip. “Of course! Why didn’t I think of this before, Yana we could just pay for a cab and go,” George suddenly shouted. They made the donkey run as fast as he might and they took money from mom’s secret stash and got a cab and went to Athens.
They had a blast there and came home before mom and dad came home. When they saw how happy Niko was acting they knew they could just blame him for steeling the money and say he must have had a great time buying things, because normally he wouldn’t smile that much. To put Niko back into his misery, to ensure their own happiness, they beat him up and made him say he took the money and wasn’t responsible enough to not get the money stolen on the way from school.
“Hey kids were home! Oh Niko you look horrible, sweetie what happened to you?” Step-mother pretended to be concerned. Papa stared at his son sitting there crying with cuts and bruises, “ Come on my wife let him be, he needs to talk to me, man to man.” “No, I am no man father; I am a dog, a stupid, stupid, boy that needed to get beat up.” Niko exclaimed through sobs and coughs. “Oh son what are you talking about, what has father taught you about crying like a girl?!” “I’m sorry Papa, but I stole step-mother’s money and, and on my way home I got beat up and it was all stolen. I’m sorry. I will understand if you never forgive me. I won’t ever do it ...’
“YOU DID WHAT?! Niko how could you do this? This woman loves you dearly, she cooks for you, and all you can do is sin and steal from the one that provides a life for you? You disappoint me terribly and I will not hear any more of this. Get to your room right NOW! Understand, Get, go on, get out of here. Go!” (He smacks his son bottom as he passes father).
The next day at school kids were whispering and talking all about Niko. It was a horrible, embarrassing day. Finally he went home to do his chores, and as he was feeding the animals he was telling them what happened, and gave them hugs. He loved his animals so much because they would never hurt him or be mean to him and they all loved him back. A tiny girl named Chrisoula overheard him because her balcony was over the chicken coop. She had a crush on Niko since she was 7 years old and couldn’t bare not letting his father know the truth of what happened. She went over there at dinner time and talked to Niko’s father and told him everything that happened. He thanked her very much and when Yana and George came home he gave them a very big spanking and made them sleep in the chicken coop. When the evil step-mother found out she screamed, “You’re going to believe that little brat of yours, that stupid, idiotic, scrawny boy. I’m glad my kids set him up and beat him up. He has been nothing, but trouble since we moved in.”
“What are you talking about you wretched woman, you fool, get out of my house, and never return, I hate you!”
“Fine I will leave you and your stupid farm, you’re worthless anyways, I have all my money from my dead husband and that’s all I need.” As she storms out she releases her children from the coop and they leave and never return. Niko was forgiven and he was loved fully again and his real brothers and sisters started spending more time with him.

Author’s Statement:
This story is supposed to be a different version of Cinderella. I remember watching the Disney movie over and over again as a child. Therefore, I wanted to make up my own version, having great knowledge of this story to me. I chose to show Niko’s rags to riches story through hate to love. My own father came from a little poor village in Greece, but other than that everything else is my own imagination. I represented the evil step-sisters and mother by, the Step-mother, Yana, and George. The bus was being like the ball in a sense in that he got to go as well and no one knew, but he was soon put back to his misery by his step-siblings. Then the hero is the little girl that told his father the truth from overhearing him. The ending is representing how in some of the Cinderella’s she got to live happily ever after and the step-figures in her family were killed or sent away. I like the story because it’s from a sad story to a happy one for a person who really deserves it. I chose to write the story instead of draw it because everyone interprets pictures differently. With detailed sentences, one can make up the images in their own head, and not be forced to see it one way. I really wanted for the message of rags to riches get across from love and not actual money. Love is more important than dollar bills. I like to read this story and think of the animals and those mean sisters. The village I chose is actually still very 3rd world today and all those chores my aunt does in Greece, except for the olive picking, she has help for that. So in a way this story is modern, very different from Cinderella’s version, but still contains some of the same themes and messages. I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I did writing it.

Once upon a time, there lived a pigeon family. One day the mother pigeon laid their first set of eggs. Day after day, the mother and father pigeon would take turns sitting on them until one morning the mother pigeon noticed a crack on one of the eggs. Come here quick! screamed the mother pigeon. The father pigeon hurried back to the nest. As they were watching their baby pigeons coming out of the egg one at a time, they noticed one egg that was quite unusually large compared to the other ones. How come this one is bigger than the other ones with not a single crack? asked the father pigeon.

Even though the egg was completely different from the other ones, the mother pigeon still decided to care for the egg until it is hatched. A week passed by and a crack finally appeared on the egg. Come quick! screamed the mother pigeon and the father pigeon once again hurried back to their nest. I wonder why this egg took longer to hatch than the other ones? asked the father pigeon. The baby pigeon slowly emerged from the egg. Oh my! exclaimed the mother pigeon as she saw the weirdest and ugliest looking baby bird that she has ever seen. The father stared at the newly hatched pigeon its brown body feather with a touch of white around its neck, long claws to go along with its long legs, and an unusually long beak.

That is not my son! screamed the father pigeon as he angrily flew out of the family's nest. What a weird and ugly looking baby u came out to be! thought the pigeon mother to herself. However, the mother pigeon being kind-hearted that she is, hugged and kissed the ugly baby pigeon. Regardless of the difference of appearance that the baby pigeon had with his brother, the mother pigeon showered the ugly pigeon with love and care while the father pigeon on the other hand treated him as an outcast and forbade him to come anywhere near his brothers and denied being one of his own.

The ugly pigeon became jealous of his sibling as they time passed by. He watched his father teach his brothers how to fly, catch and look for food, and play with them, while his father did not even bother looking at him. What is wrong with me? Why do I look so different from my brothers? thought the baby pigeon to himself. The baby pigeon grew lonesome since no one wanted to be near him. No one seemed to care for him and had to teach himself everything. He learned how to fly and catch food by himself. After a few weeks, he outgrew his siblings and even his parents. He got so big that his father and sibling hated him even more.

All the other neighboring creatures hated him as well. They ran away from him once they see him going towards them. One day the baby pigeon became tired of the insults and treatment that he had been getting from everyone and decided to run away. He flew and flew away from the nest until he can fly no more. Deciding to take a break, the baby pigeon who is now all grown up, landed on a branch bearing the scars from his past. He stayed on the branch without moving a muscle and eventually fell asleep. When he woke up, he was surprised to see someone sitting next to him. As he turned his head, he was surprised to see someone who looked a lot like him, a bit bigger but the features were similar.

What’s with the long face little one? asked the strange bird. Well, I left home since everyone hated and mistreated me for being such an ugly pigeon, he answered. The strange bird stared at him and suddenly burst out laughing. What is so funny? he asks. You are not a pigeon but an eagle! said the strange bird. We are eagles and we prey on little birds such as pigeons, considering yourself a pigeon is too hilarious, said the strange bird.

The strange bird invited him to his home and became close to him and treated him as one of his own. He finally felt like he belonged. The strange bird taught him things that eagles do and as time passed by he became tougher and tougher hunting bigger preys for his dinner and finally built up the confidence that he had lost from the mistreatment that his family showed him.

One day he decided to pay his old home a visit. When he got there, his mother was so happy to see him after such a long time came up to him, hugged and kissed him as she did when he first came out of the egg. However, when he saw his father and siblings, all the built up anger inside him came back. He got angry and flew with all his might towards his father and siblings and killed them and made them his prey. He looked at his mother and flew away without turning back. He left the nest where he was hatched and promised never to return.

For my project I chose to recreate the story of Cinderella. My idea for the story of The Little Dust Bunny came when I was trying to think of something comparable to the name of Cinderella. I thought something being called a “dust bunny” could have the same persona as Cinderella and thought it would be even cuter if I had a toy rabbit play off the name. I also chose to work with photos in a comic style because I had so many ideas and actions I wanted to display that it was just more convincing if I had actual pictures of everything. I also had the perfect casting for Dust Bunny which was actually a little toy my dog had which already looked roughed up with a hole on his back.

In the story it’s every toy’s dream to find someone who will love them and give them a nice home, so it’s every toy’s dream of being on display in a toy shop window. The doll and the race car are much like the ugly step sisters in Cinderella because they are cruel and mean to Dust Bunny. These toys believe that no one will take Dust Bunny home because they feel they are much more interesting and thus better. The kind shop keeper who finds Dust Bunny on the dirty floor, after he was bumped from the shelf, is much like the fairy godmother in how she gives him love and even puts him in the front window. However, like in Cinderella, all good things cannot always last like when Dust Bunny is returned to the shelf and Cinderella returns to her normal life. Though there is no shoe in this story, I thought it was important to have the little girl prove that she really wanted the little bunny by having her search the shop for him. The story ends on a happy note, like many fairytales, where the bunny is taken to a good home and the mean toys are still sitting on the shelf waiting to be bought.

Fairy Tale
Hansel and Gretel- “Jeremy and Hanna”
There once was a pair of twins who always thought alike. The brother’s name was Jeremy and the sister’s name was Hanna. The two of them were both freshman at Southern Connecticut State University. They both lived on campus in a dormitory called Wilkinson Hall. Jeremy lived on the fifth floor and Hanna lived on the sixth. Neither twin could go too long without the other, and the two of them frequently spent time in each other’s rooms.
Both twins had very mean and nasty roommates. Jeremy’s roommate was named Chris and Hanna’s was Leslie. Chris and Leslie were both terribly lazy and refused to do any of the chores around the room. Chris would always leave dirty dishes around the room and Leslie would leave her dirty clothes strewn about the floor. Hanna and Jeremy frequently were cleaning up their own messes as well as the ones that their roommates left for them.
Chris and Leslie had met during freshman orientation and were already friends. The two of them hated how Hanna and Jeremy were constantly with one another and were nothing but a pair of goody two shoes. One day while Hanna and Jeremy were both at class, Chris and Leslie found themselves talking.
“I hate how they never spend any time away from each other,” Chris said, plopping down on Leslie’s bed. Leslie sat at her desk, looking at a new Coach purse online.
“Oh my god, I know what you mean. I can’t spend enough time away from my brother. It’s like some freaky psychic twins act,” she replied, smacking her lips together as she chewed on a piece of gum.
All the sudden a terrible awful idea came upon Chris. He and Leslie talked more about it, even going so far as to leave the room once the twins returned home. Chris said he had heard that a bunch of students were heading up to West Rock State Park after a football game Friday night. Chris, who had a many friends who happened to be as rotten as he was, already knew that there was a footpath that led from the school up the mountain. The path was dangerous and hard to follow unless one was following someone who had already been to the top of West Rock.
Chris suggested that him and Leslie bring the twins up to the path to West Rock, and then lose them somewhere along the path. The twins would be interested enough to head to the top and would most likely get lost somewhere in the woods between Southern and the top of West Rock. It was perfect; everyone was going at night, which made things even easier. There was a football game the next Friday, and Chris suggested that the plan be put into action right away.
Hanna and Jeremy were both interested as soon as they heard that there was going to be a huge get together at the top of West Rock and didn’t have a second thought when Chris and Leslie offered to show them the way up. That night the four roommates trooped down towards the entrance to the path and Hanna wondered absently why there weren’t any other people ahead or behind them while they started to head up.
“Oh don’t worry,” Leslie said, trying to be as nice as possible, “A lot of people probably went up there before the game even started. We’ll get there soon though.”
The woods were surprisingly thick and the trail was very uneven and even Chris had a bit of trouble keeping his footing. The four students wound through the woods, walking alongside a small stream. Soon the stream veered off to the right sharply and turned in front of the students, cutting off their path. A little off to the side however, was a large pipe that stretched across the stream, and it was certainly wide enough for a person to walk across. The twin’s faces fell as they saw a large tree had fallen across the pipe, blocking anyone from getting across that way.
“Oh no way, when did this happen?” Chris asked, trying to sound as if he didn’t know that the tree had fallen, and actually made crossing the pipe even easier. “This must have happened when it rained last week. Maybe there’s another place we can cross. Why don’t you guys look over that way?” Chris jerked his thumb in the opposite direction. “Leslie and I will look this way.”
Hanna and Jeremy shrugged and turned the other way, stepping off the path and moving along the stream’s side, looking for a place to cross. They quickly found a spot that was shallow, and the twins raced across. They stopped and waited for their roommates, but the two never showed up. Hanna called out for them, hoping that one of them would hear, but there was no reply.
“Maybe they found another way across and are already heading up,” Jeremy said, turning slightly to try and make his way back to the footpath. Hanna nodded and followed, not really wanting to spend the rest of her evening with her roommate anyhow. The twins trudged up and up the path, and eventually came to a road. Hanna and Jeremy followed the road for a bit, and then sat down to take a rest. The climb was much steeper and longer than they had thought, and neither thought to bring water with them.
As the two of them sat resting, a minivan pulled up alongside them on the road and stopped. The window rolled down slightly and an older woman was inside. From where the twins were sitting one could just see inside of the cab. The old woman sat hunched over the steering wheel, and was sitting on a booster seat in order to see out the windshield.
“My lord dearies, you certainly do look tired. Are you headed up to West Rock like the other students?” she asked, and her voice seemed as frail as she looked. Hanna nodded and stood up, ignoring the ache in her legs. “Well why don’t you hop in, I live near West Rock and it’s still a long way to the top.
The twins gave in and pulled the sliding door open, hopping into the back of the van. The woman drove off slowly. Hanna and Jeremy slumped up against the walls of the van, already exhausted from their trip. But the woman was really a vampire and was only taking them up to West Rock so that she could kill the two of them and no one would think a thing of it. The children could have lost their footing and easily fallen from the edge of the mountain. No one would find them.
Once the three of them got to the top, the woman locked the doors to the van quickly, leaving the twins trapped inside. “Do something!” Hanna shouted, backing away as the woman stood up from the driver’s seat and started to slowly creep towards them. All the sudden the woman got a burst of speed, rushing towards Jeremy when her foot got caught on the seatbelt, tripping her and sending her crashing to the floor of the car. The woman’s neck was twisted in a way that the twins were sure that she wasn’t going to get up again. Jeremy stood up quickly and pushed the old woman’s body into the driver’s seat again, turning the key to start the van, unlocking the doors and then propping the woman’s foot up against the accelerator. Hanna swung the door open and she and Jeremy jumped out quickly, watching as the old woman’s van tumbled over the cliff face and crashing to the bottom.
The twins ran back to Southern as fast as they could and didn’t stop until they were far out of the woods and into the streetlight of campus. The next day the two of them spoke to Residence life, and had both Chris and Leslie switched out of their rooms.

~Artist’s Statement~
I decided to make Hansel and Gretel modernized so that a contemporary reader, my audience, would be able to relate more to the story and understand. I based it at Southern and West Rock since these are both places that I’ve been to and are familiar with. Also, the setting of West Rock was similar to the setting of the woods in the Brother’s Grimm’s version of the tale. Since I was working with students as my main characters, I decided to make the roommates the antagonists instead of parents, since I found it hard to relate parents leading their children off into the woods to a modern day situation. However, the same basic antagonistic idea is still in my story, where the roommates just want the twins gone, just like the parents did in the ‘original’ tale. I decided on making the siblings twins since twins have a tendency to be much closer than regular siblings, and thus would explain why they stick together all the time.
Technically, I chose to work in prose since it is the form that I am most comfortable and familiar with. I chose Hansel and Gretel because it was the one story that we had not overanalyzed in class yet. I kept a little bit of the foreshadowing that was in the original tale. Also, I chose to leave out the scattering of the rocks/bread crumbs since it didn’t seem to fit in that well with the more modern content of my story. However I did work in the idea of having the original path blocked and straying from the given path and that often bad things will happen to those who stray from the given path.

There was once a family that that lived in a small house in a small town. They were your average young couple living an average lifestyle. Their first child unfortunately had complications at birth and soon passed away. Discouraged with the concept that they could have a child of their own then adopted a son. He was a small boy with eyes as blue as the sky and hair as mysterious as the black night. He was quit and polite and always listened to what he was told. A few years after the addition to the family the two parents had two other children of their own. They truly felt that a miracle was bestowed upon them. The adopted son was then expected to manage the chores of the household while the parents tended to the needs of their new children. The years went on until the adopted son was now in his teens.
One winter the adopted son was shoveling snow in the driveway when he hears an “ouch” he stops what he is doing a looks around but sees nothing. He continues on with his shoveling when he hears “hey watch it!” The adopted son stops again and looks around but still sees nothing. The adopted son asks “Is anyone there?” From the snow he sees something small moving about, after a closer look he notices that it is a duck, with feathers of an iridescent tint. The adopted boy asked the duck for his name he replied” I have none” the adopted boy decided to name him then. Considering the weather the adopted boy decided to name the duck Eskimo. Since then the adopted boy always did his chores with Eskimo by his side. They became the best of friends.
Now the adopted boy was of age to enlist into the military. The adopted son dreaded this idea immensely, not to say he was afraid, rather he knew it wasn’t the lifestyle for him. On the day of his departure he was walking to the train station with Eskimo. Eskimo looks at the adopted boy, and sees the sadness in his eyes. Eskimo begs the adopted boy not to go but with no success, the adopted boy always listens to what he is told to do by his parents. No matter what Eskimo said the adopted boy would not budge, Eskimo knew he didn’t want to go but he didn’t want to disappoint his family. He thought if he went into the military they would love him more. After hearing this Eskimo responded, “Why don’t you find your birth parents? You are old enough now.” The adopted boy smiled a bit at the thought but truth be told that concept scared him as well. Its easy when you don’t know the truth of you biological parents. Your imagination can make them whatever you desire. No room for disappointment. The adopted boy shook the idea out of his head and sat quietly for the train. It would be another 2 hours before the train showed up, so Eskimo suggested resting before the train comes at takes him away to training. As the adopted boy sleeps, Eskimo goes off to retrieve the location of his biological parents. The adopted boy sleeps fast as the train that he was suppose to take comes and goes without him on it. The adopted boy awakens to find that he had missed the train; he then decides to walk home and rest for the night and try to go again tomorrow. He walked into his house and saw that no one was there. He then walks up to his room only to find it bare and empty. From the window he could see a light. Walking over to the glass the light became clearer. There was a large fire going in the back yard accompanied by the two parents and the younger siblings. What was fueling the flames was the possessions that once belongs to the adopted boy. He could hear his parents laughing and talking about how happy they were that he was no gone. A tear forms in the corner of his eye but does not fall. The adopted boy decides to walk off into the night, he didn’t have a destination in mind. The adopted boy just wanted to walk when all of a sudden Eskimo lands on his shoulder. Eskimo tells him if he is going to cry let it be of joy and not sorrow. Eskimo then tells him to turn around. There before him was a woman and a man standing outside of a car. His hair was as mysterious as the dark and her eyes were as blue as the sky. It was in their smiles at him that he knew who they were. He knew they were his biological parents. He smiled as his tear fell to the ground. The boy embraced his newly found family and lived his life as he saw fit.
The end.

The details in this story I simply took from items around me. The color iridescent, the name Eskimo, and the duck were all things I just took from my daily surroundings. The idea of going off into the military was taken from my brother who just went off to training. I guess you could say it was just something on my mind. I wanted this story to be about gaining independence but I could only figure that could be done after his hopes were crushed. I saw the tear as his last thread of hope that he kept until his unknown hope came true.

Cinderella

There once was a poor widow who struggled to raise her daughter, Cindy and her stepdaughter, Red. When alive the old widow’s husband loved his wife and his two daughters very deeply. Although their father granted both daughters equal privileges, Red still resented her sister because she felt her father did not love Red and her mother with the same fervor as he did Cindy and her mother. Cindy was a gentle and wise beauty but Red was the look of sheer divinity with a natural mesmerizing fire in her eyes. The finest, handsomest men admired Red and she was the target of envy of all the women.
One day, the poor widow heard of a great festival being held by the king himself in hopes of finding a wife for his son. The widow knew at once that when the prince took one look at Red, she would be the uncontested princess. Cindy was very excited for her sister even though she longed to be with a wonderful prince herself but she knew Red would be the obvious pick. Cindy was eager to help Red get dressed in all her fancies for the big event. The widow and Cindy were sure that when Red married the prince, the whole family would move into the castle and their years of struggle would be over. Red on the other hand had other ideas. After she became princess she decided to be rid of her sister and stepmother for they had all of her father’s love before he died, they did not deserver her fortune too.
The night before the festival, Red went for a walk through the town gardens to pick the perfect rose to wear in her hair at the festival. After hours of searching for a rose, a wolf approached Red and asked her what she was looking for. Red informed the wolf that she was searching for the perfect rose to meet the prince. “Well come with me,” said the wolf, “ I have a wonderful rose garden at my home where I’m sure you will find your hair décor and then you’re sure to look as good as angel cake. But I will have to blindfold you and lead you there so that you will not know how to find my garden later and steal my roses.”
Red was surprised to hear that a wolf would have a garden; she just had to see it so she agreed to be blindfolded. The wolf led her around the town garden to a hidden section of the woods where a greenhouse was located. The wolf knew Red had no knowledge of this section. “Oh Mr. Wolf, what a beautiful garden!” Red exclaimed, as she plucked the first rose she saw. “This one is perfect, the prince will love it!” The wolf was so pleased he ate his cake.
Cindy married the prince and she and her mother and her knew husband lived happily ever after.

Beauty is not always met with intelligence and wisdom. Red may have been cursed by her beauty because she depended on it to get her through life without really stopping to smell the roses.

English 217. Sect 2
Dr. Sonnenschein

Once upon a time there was a rich man and his wife became very ill and she passed away. When she passed away she left a daughter behind. The man remarried. The women he married had two daughters. They were both very gorgeous on the outside, but on the inside it was a different story. They were rude and very cold hearted. The sisters and the stepmother would make the poor girl wear ugly and uncomfortable clothes and they would also make her to really dirty and hard work. They were so cruel to her that she did not even have her own bed; she slept outside in the shed and ate leftovers.
The father had a business trip in Boston so he asked the girls what they would like him to bring home for them. The two stepsisters said dresses and jewelry, while Cinderella, the one that was treated poorly asked for him to bring back the flowers that are in his hotel room.
He brought back everyone’s requests and the girls were trilled. They began trying on their dresses and jewelry on right away, but Cinderella took the flowers to her mother’s grave and planted them there. She began crying. She visited the grave everyday. With everyday she cried until when she arrived at her mother’s grave she did not recognize it because there were beautiful flowers planted there from her tear drops.
The sisters were very excited because there was a ball coming up for the prince so that he could find his future wife. They sisters were very excited to show off their new jewels and dresses. They bragged to Cinderella that they were able to go to the ball while she had to keep doing her dirty chores.
With these flowers at Cinderella’s mothers grave there was this bee that would always be on the largest flower and he granted Cinderella three wishes. Cinderella said to the flower: “Bring me gold and silver little bee.” With that being said the bee flew over to Cinderella and dropped off a beautiful dress with gold and silver in it and perfect glass slippers. With that she went off to the ball and as soon as she walked in everyone stared and admired her since she was the prettiest of all in the room. Cinderella danced with the prince all night until it was time for her to return home. She just ran off and the prince was not able to catch her. She returned home before her stepmother and sisters arrived home so they did not think of anything.
The following evening there was another ball and Cinderella went to the bee and said: “Bring me gold and silver little bee.” She went to the ball and it ended the same way as the night before. The stepsisters and stepmother where beginning to wonder if this beautiful girl at the ball was Cinderella so they quickly ran home to catch her in her lovely outfit, but all they found was her sleeping in the shed in her dirty clothes. On the third night of the ball she returned to the bee and then ran to the ball. When the night was over she escaped from the prince but one of her slippers fell off and the prince went to his father the next morning and told him that he needed to find the girl who belonged to the slipper and that he was going to make her his wife. He went around to every house and asked all the women to try the slipper on. In every case the slipper was either too big or too small. One of the stepsisters cut off her toes so that her foot could fit in the shoe. He was trilled that he found his future but realized that when he picked her up that toe part of the shoe had blood on it. He went back to find the girl of his dreams. The other stepsister cut off her heal so that the slipper would fit. He soon realized that there was blood on her shoe also. The prince had Cinderella try on the slipper because he saw it as that it would not hurt if she tried it on so she put it on and it was a perfect fit.
Finally the day of the wedding and the stepsisters arrived at the wedding and the bee stung them and they died instantly because they were allergic to bees. Cinderella and the prince lived happily ever after.

When I was writing this, I kept in mind that I wanted the story to be similar to one of the originals and that I did not want to switch it up too much. Another thing that I changed was that there was not a lot of dialogue. I do not think that there needs to be a lot of dialogue in the story because that is just extra information that you need to know. My main goal was to just make the story plan and simple so that everyone could understand it.

Full of No Words, Cinderella

Mothers too far away
Grandmother is mad, just crazy
Father did not want to stay
Stepmother is hard on me
Mutter Grandma

Make my dinner, clean the house
Sweat, dirt, lucky to shower
“You will never get a spouse”
Stepmother has all the power
Chant Grandma

The invites are out, a wife to find
New shoes, new dresses, not for me
Promised to be left behind
Stepmother will not hear my plea
Scream Grandma

Broken heart, feel alone empty Cries
Only a figure in the corner
Sudden movement in front of my eyes
Unexpected as a foreigner
Shock Grandma

Wow dress, still a doubting Thomas
Wow shoes, a movement of finger
Wow glass slipper, midnights promise
Now coach and driver, no time to linger
consecrated Grandma

Sparkles as you enter
No eyes can move, all on you
Lets dance in the center
Prince’s kiss is overdue
It’s time Grandma

Run Run
Promise on mind
Time has come
But left behind
Sigh Grandma
Ambitious he, not a nights sleep
Glass slipper in hand, only perfect fit
“Closet, stay” a slave to keep
None found, ready to quit
Resourceful Grandma

Magic finger alive again
“Tap, Tap” closet sing
Sutter try to explain
Fit of glass slipper escort by ring
Watch Grandma

Stepmother forgotten, exiled
Love with castle to live forever
“Always a bed” said child
Mad, or misunderstood yet clever

My version of Cinderella
Her dark brown eyes could turn one’s shine into a dark, vague dream. Her long ebony colored hair was always free of tangles but never free of dreams she might have left behind her loved ones who always fought for her commitment. Her silky, smooth skin was worth her charm yet when her insides are exposed, the coarse and rough surface always went unnoticed. This misconception perhaps might have been the reason to why Cinderella was always sympathized by others. Was it because she spread rumors saying that her step-sisters don’t treat her well? Or was it the fact that she was adopted that immediately put her into great consideration by the townspeople? Either way, both rational reasons seemed to play a huge role for Cinderella’s own beneficial advantage.
The family Cinderella stayed with knew what was happening, and they were in total shock to realize and observe how Cinderella had grown up to be since she was a little child. Back then, any family that took in a child normally treated that child with low dignity hence, Cinderella might have learnt from that and attempted to apply it to her own life which was actually a total contrast from her situation. Cinderella was brought up in a very orderly manner, and was always treated with great respect and dignity. But it seemed like that much attention wasn’t enough for her, therefore, to get more attention and sympathy perhaps, she told everyone of how she was treated by her two step-sisters and her step-mother, who on the other hand, were innocent and honest. Bella and Cruella were the two step-sisters of Cinderella and always treated her as her own blood, Mrs. Dimmesdale, their mother was also as kind, but unfortunately she hardly stayed home with her daughters since she assisted her husband out to sail to sell merchandized equipments on the other side of the world, was it the “New World” maybe that was just discovered.
Bella and Cruella were not as pretty as much but their inner beauty should have shined out for them. Cinderella was given everything as she pleased but she set such an image of herself that young girls thought of her to be their “great idol”, young men were always blindfolded by her beauty and the way she was thought to be treated by her family, the townspeople all gave her respect and this situation had gone as far, to such an extent that once they decided to kick Dimmesdale’s family out of the town, the evil demon played the role of an angel for once and asked them not to do so. She also dressed herself in rags and tatters occasionally simply to achieve the attention and care she might have lacked. If anyone had asked for a description of Cinderella, they all knew her as the girl who sat in the cinders, lost in reality and in her dreams all by herself, rudeness and meanness was all her dark attic around her. Nevertheless, every person in the town loved her charm, and her outer beauty always spoke favor for itself.
Prince Fillon is what makes this fairy tale as significant as it is. Prince Fillon was from France and was known to be related to Clovis, the first king of the Franks and hence, this immediately sets the image of him being a wealthy young man typically looking for love. He was a tall, young and muscular man, with dark and dreamy features and soulful eyes. His innocence and kindness could never be mistaken, his search for love was the most vital to him once he came to the town where the cinders were spread. Once he set his feet to Cinderella’s hometown, everyone was aware of his quest for true love and immediately everyone’s attempt to impress him was set. Cinderella’s true colors now begin to paint her portrait of blackness. She begins to dress up more beautiful than usual, she grows meaner to the other girls who she called her friends and for that matter, she only boosted her charm around the prince only. The prince gradually begins to fall for Cinderella, and everything else was a blur to him. The townspeople attempted to warn him about her true inner self, but it really didn’t make much sense to him since the only sense he was now left of was for his “love”. Just the way the townspeople were blindfolded with Cinderella’s outer charm, was the same exact way the prince also became blindfolded for her love. Bella, Cinderella’s step-sister who was a pretty girl also attempted to make it a point to talk to the prince and let him know that “his love was suppose to be found at this place, but the love that he gained with Cinderella was false…” and that there was another awaiting love which was truthful for him. As for the prince, none of these soft spoken words made any sense to him.
The prince had planned for a ballroom dance for the whole town, and asked for Cinderella to be his escort for life. He actually proposed to Cinderella with precious pair of glass heels which she obviously accepted instantly! The pair of those heels was actually passed on to generations throughout the monarchy of Prince Fillon’s family and was believed to have been a traditional blessing in the family that is about to create a new branch to the monarchy tree.
At the ballroom, as the prince and Cinderella were dancing their night away with the whole town present, Cinderella slips out of one of her glass pair of heels and loses one heel of the pair. Since then, that one glass heel was thought to be lost and it was never really found. Bella secretly had that one glass heel and kept it to herself, she had actually received it from Prince Fillon’s fairy godmother. Therefore, we never know who was perfect for the prince, and we surely do know that the prince married Cinderella, but does he finally realize that his love was not right? And that “outer beauty doesn’t reflect the insides”? The prince made a mistake.
My Interpretation:
Based on the fairytale itself, the re-written version is more unique and fresher and the personalities hugely change and hence this is one of the reasons to why the whole story is impacted. The settings were of around the 1700's when America was founded but the difference here to that time is that this did not occur where women's right are totally compressed and lowered, therefore, the setting of the story was at a small town where liberal views were spread but "innocence" was also present. That is one of the reasons to why we see all the townspeople blinded my Cinderella's charm. The main reason to why I thought that Cinderella's personality should be changed was because most of the people have this stereotype to that step-sisters have always been mean, together with their step-mother and so forth. So, I slightly wanted to change that and bring it out in such a way where the moral of the story could be: "the insides don't necessarily have to reflect the outsides". The moral is such because most of the times, we tend to see that little children mostly refer to the outer beauty of anything even before knowing or learning the backgrounds of that specific.
Moreover, we also have Bella and Cruella but Bella plays a significant role compared to Cruella in this story but she is rarely mentioned than Cinderella. The readers should begin to realize how truthful and real Bella was, she was obviously in love with the prince but she never pushed the prince into loving her back because remember how the "innocence" was a part of the townspeople's personality, but this exception only goes to Cinderella who on the other hand, already knew the tricks and charms that usually worked out perfect for her at all times. The Parents of Bella and Cruella are rarely mentioned because they seemed to be busy with sailing and trade, and hence those characters are really insignificant.
Prince Fillon is useful in the story since he plays the role of the usual victims. Just the same way the townspeople were "blindfolded" by Cinderella's charm, that is the same way, Prince Fillon was "blindfolded". The townspeople finally come to realize how Cinderella really was and therefore, based on a typical prediction, one could use this to foreshadow it to the prince's situation. This character is from France and is related to Clovis, a very famous king of the franks which immediately stands him out. Towards the end, it gets a little dreamy and "fairy-tale like" since there is an encounter of Prince Fillon's fairy godmother with Bella, who should've been with the prince initially but instead she receives the precious glass heel which symbolizes "truthful love", which indirectly is what Prince Fillon's tradition is really all about.
Overall, there are many literary devices used throughout this story, one of them being disillusionment. Countless predictions can be made through foreshadowing, and many lessons can also learnt.

"From Bada Bings to Wedding Rings"

Once upon a time in a wine vineyard far away,
A neglected girl named Maria felt astray.
Her dad was too into finishing off the big boss,
Her stepmother too worried about the macaroni sauce.
Maria’s stepsisters were only worried about the Italian boys,
While Maria became a victim of jealously and coy.
In the wine cellar she would crush the grapes and do the cooking too,
Anything her stepsisters and stepmother were to lazy to do.
Her father, the goomba of the vineyard, didn’t defend her side,
So the rules she had no other choice but to abide.
Every night to St. Anthony she would pray,
To help her find her Italian prince one day.
Behind the mopeen or the pasta and meatball meals,
There was a beautiful girl deserving to be made a big deal.
Casino Night was the big event of the year to attend,
But Maria knew she couldn’t go because her stepmothers arm she could not bend.
She could only go if homemade macaroni sauce and stuffed bread she could cook,
So she hastily looked for every tasty sauce recipe in the book.
She would have to make the macaroni and stuffed bread from fresh flour,
But knew there was no hope for she would never finish within the hour.
Her stepsisters and stepmother went to the casino dressed in Armani and Prada,
Leaving Maria home with nothing, but agoiatta.
Outside while Maria was eating her mozzarella and fresh tomato pie,
A fairy godfather appeared from the sky.
He said his name was Al Pacino
And he was the man to get her to that Casino.
Her white teeth showed a little bit more,
She was ecstatic to be able to walk through that Casino door.
The Godfather had his connections,
And like that the meal was done with one single direction.
Maria didn’t have anything to wear,
But the Godfather said she had nothing to fear.
Suddenly she was dressed in the finest Italian décor.
All the cute Italian boys she would hope to score.
Thanks to the Godfather she did pay,
For he did appear to save the day.
Off to the casino in a Cadillac stretch,
She no longer felt like a dog playing fetch.
Arriving through the front Casino door,
She felt like a beautiful Italian princess and more.
Her family didn’t recognize the beautiful girl,
But the most prominent mob boss’s head she had in a twirl.
This unknown beauty he wanted on his side,
So he can buy her a mansion and make her his mafia bride.
They gambled, flirted, and had some wine,
Until the clock struck quarter past nine.
She hurriedly ran off without saying farewell to the big boss,
Not realizing she left her favorite red lip-gloss.
The boss, who was determined to find out this true adoration,
Planned to have every girl try on the lip gloss, without hesitation.
The one, who fit the perfect shade of red,
Would be the lucky girl chosen to lie forever in his bed.
So the search for his Italian princess began,
And the mob boss became a very desperate man.
He couldn’t find whose lip gloss was left behind,
For he didn’t know Maria was his one of a kind.
Feeling as if he was striking out,
He remembered that Maria’s house he forgot about.
Surprised were her stepsisters when on the door they heard a knock;
They would do anything to get on their finger that rock.
After two last attempts to try on the gloss,
The mob boss felt like he was at a loss.
At a quick glance he saw Maria walk into the room;
He made her try on the gloss in hopes of being her groom.
Maria put on the juicy red lip gloss,
She would soon become the new wife of the mob boss.
A wedding invitation to every paisan they did send,
But Maria’s stepmother and stepsisters were the only ones unable to attend.
Somehow they were wearing cement shoes
Because their passion for Maria they did not choose.
Maria once the victim of being ignored,
Now lived happily ever after on the Jersey shore.

Footnotes For Unknown Words:

goomba- Term used to describe an Italian person of respect. Said to have ties to the Mafia, but not a mobster them self

mopeen- Italian slang for an Italian dishrag

agoiatta- Italian slang for upset stomach or bad feeling about a situation

paisan- Italian slang for very close family and friends

Writer Statement:
As a writer the main goals I had for my poem were to bring humorous and Italian in order to make the Cinderella fairy tale into my own genre. I chose to write a rhyming poem in the AABB rhyme scheme because I wanted my readers to read it smoothly and enjoy what they were reading. For the end of the poem, I wanted to leave my readers with a surprise ending that included a comic twist. In order to make my readers understand the satire I used, I made sure to include Italian symbols that are common to what most people stereotype an Italian person to be.

The Little Red Riding Hood In Reverse

Have you ever read Little Red Riding Hood and wondered what it would be like if the roles were switched? If you haven’t, today is your lucky day.
Once upon a time there was a little girl named Little Red Riding Who Could who lived with her mother and was greatly loved by everyone in her town. She was especially loved by her grandmother. They called her this because she was always the person you could trust to do anything and do it well. She had this power that no one else in the town had. Little Red Riding Who Could was always excited to go to Grandma’s house. However, her adventure there wasn‘t always so enjoyable. There was always this big bad wolf who always seemed to distract her to throw her off track, but she never fell for his tricks because tricks are for pigs.
One day when she went to grandma’s they both planned a plot that would keep the wolf out of their lives forever. The plan was for her to secretly follow the wolf and then capture him at the right time. “This is our best idea yet!” said Little Riding Hood Who Could.
She did exactly what grandma said. She followed the wolf every chance she got. She was determined to stop the wolf from ruining everyone’s lives in town. One day Little Red Riding Hood Who Could’s mother wanted her to bring a basket of apples to her grandmother, and on her way she decided to visit her friend Piggy first. She wanted to console her. Piggy and her two brothers were attacked by the big bad wolf the week before and Piggy was the only one who survived. Her brothers were eaten by the wolf. On her way there she saw the wolf and by the looks of it he was up to no good and was headed the same direction as she was. Little Red Riding Hood Who Could took the short cut to Piggy’s house and hopefully beat the wolf there. She got to Piggy’s house almost out of breath and told her that the wolf was his way there and he had something sneaky on his mind. They looked out the window and sure enough the wolf was yards away from Piggy’s house.
“We must do something to stop him,” said Piggy. “Don’t worry I have an idea,” said Little Riding Hood Who Could.
They snuck out the back door and rushed to Grandma’s house and made sure the wolf would see them and follow them there. They reached Grandma’s house and they knew the wolf was right behind them.
“Grandma, Grandma, he’s coming he’s coming!! Is everything set up?” Yes my dear, everything is under control” said Grandma. Grandma put on her wolf costume and got into bed with the covers pulled up to her nose. Just as the wolf walks in the door he sees Little Riding Hood Who Could standing over Grandma reciting:
“Grandma,” she said. “What big eyes you have!”
“The better to see you with my dear,” said Grandma.
“Grandma, what big ears you have!”
“The better to hear you with my dear.”
“Grandma what big teeth you have!”
“The better to eat…
While all of this is happening the wolf stands there with a blank face not believing what he is seeing. He thinks that another wolf has ruined his plans. As he stands there focused on Little Red Riding Hood Who Could, he is unaware of the rest of his surroundings. All of a sudden Piggy comes creeping around the corner with an ax in her hands and whacks the wolf on the back of the head.
“Yes! I got him!” said Piggy, “The wolf will no longer destroy our lives.”
They had a meal for an entire week and enough to share with everyone in the town. They were the heroes of the town and everyone lived happily ever after.
THE END!

Once upon a time, there lived a poor mother and her beautiful teenage daughter named Linderella who were left homeless after a fire had burned their house down. The mother and daughter were looked down upon each and everyday by their peers and by people walking on the streets. Her teenage daughter admired all of the other teenagers in her town dressed with all the latest fashion, wearing big gold chains, and driving nice expensive cars. As for Linderella, she only had rags to wear, a winter jacket from the Salvation Army, and canned food from the food pantry. Linderella wanted nothing in life except for food and shelter.

May 21st came, the day of her senior prom. Linderella knew she wouldn’t be attending it, instead she would just watch all of her peers attend the prom riding in limousines and wearing fancy dresses. That morning, Linderella and her mother set out on a walk in a local park, when suddenly she saw a cloud of sparkles in front of her. She stopped and waited for a moment, then instantly an angel appeared in the midst of the sparkles. The angel said to Linderrella, “here is a key that your grandmother sent me to give to you, she said you will figure out what it is for when it fits just right into a lock.” The angel then disappeared. Linderella was real confused; however she continued on her journey through the park and then headed home to her shelter where she lived.

On her journey home she tried the shiny key in all of the houses she walked by, but the key didn’t fit in any lock. She kept walking and walking and was just about to give up when she noticed a small old house all the way at the end of the street. “It couldn’t possibly be to that house” said Linderella. However, she decided to try it anyway. She reached the house, put the key in the hole, turned it, and instantly the door swung open and the house became surrounded with sparkles and transformed into a mansion. She walked in and the house was furnished with beautiful furniture and curtains, and at the end of the hall was a closed door. She opened the door, and much to her surprise she saw a beautiful pink dress, sparkly silver shoes, and a tiara. She instantly put the dress on and ran outside when she noticed a bright pink hummer sitting in her driveway. She hopped in and to her surprise; the angel of her grandmother was sitting in the driver’s seat and drove her across town to her prom.

When she arrived, all of her peers stared at her and came up to greet her as if she was someone famous. She stepped out of the car as her grandmother said to her, “make sure you have a good time, I’ll be watching over you and mommy to make sure that you will live happily ever after in your new mansion.”

Artist’s Statement:
I am a senior in college and a Social Work major which is why I chose to change the fairy tale of Cinderella as I did. I chose a mother and child in poverty and living in a homeless shelter due to a crisis of a fire since this is a case which a social worker may have to deal with. The poor treatment from her fellow peers and others, who are better off than her, is something which many clients of social workers, have to deal with. Also, I am a religious person so I chose to use an angel as the magical figure. Also, the grandmother sending “Linderella” the key, and telling her she will watch over her, symbolizes that even after your loved ones have passed on, they still watch over you and take care of you. My goal in writing this is to let people know that no matter how bad you think things are, there is always hope that they will improve, and there area always people who love you and are watching over you.

Once upon a time there was a beautiful young girl,
Who seemed to be adored by everyone in the world.
She wore a little red hood that her grandmother made,
She wore it so much it even became her name.

One sunny day, Little Red Riding Hood’s mother asked,
Can you bring this basket to grandmother, but you must be fast.
So the little girl was off, onto the trail,
With little knowledge of what was entailed.
Along the path she encountered a wolf,
Who was only interested in how to engulf.
He was shady; he was sly, but still he seemed to be a nice guy.
The wolf tricked Little Red Riding Hood into telling him where she going,
He was deceitful and he was crafty, but she had no way of knowing.

When Little Red Riding Hood got to grandmothers house,
Grandmother was laying in bed, and seemed to be aroused.
Little Red Riding Hood stared at the wolf in confusion,
She asked many questions to try and come to a conclusion.
“Oh grandmother what big arms you have!”
“The better to hug you with, my child”
“Oh grandmother what big ears you have!”
“The better to hear you with, my child.”
“Oh grandmother what big eyes you have!
“The better to see you with, my child.”
“Oh grandmother what big teeth you have!
“The better to eat you with1”
And suddenly the wolf jumped out and gobbled the little girl up.

A few hours past, and a woodsman walked by,
When he noticed what happened he said to himself “oh my”.
Once the wolf fell asleep, the woodsman cut open his tummy,
Little Red Riding Hood jumped out and only wanted her mummy.¹
Shortly after grandmother followed the little girl to safety,
They both gather rocks and dropped them into the wolfs’ stomach, because he was so shasty.²
The wolf never woke up, and seemed to be dead.
With excitement they all celebrated while the evil wolf laid still in bed.

This is a twist on "Little Red
Riding Hood" that I came up with. I like the reversal of roles and the fact that the big bad wolf has lost his title.

I call it "Red"

Annette Bakes here commenting on Tracie Bolack's , "Snow White Revisited". I loved it the whole thing. I loved how it was modern and still the same idea as the original, but with an awesome update. The names of the dwarves was cute..I actually laughed when I read the names and the end of SNowwear ..good humor. I don't like much about the law and hate dealing with reading stuff about it, but this was understandable and fun to read. Good story..editing is not needing. A+ to me.

Stacy Young's , "Cinderella",:
THis tale was an awesome twist of little red riding hood and Cinderella. I knew it would be good when I saw the name Red, I couldn't wait until I got to the part or the end rather. Good story. Nice simple vocab, easy read, and fun to read.

I really enjoyed reading Eric BaBa's version of Little Red Riding Hood. I thought the part where LRRH was confused that the wolf could talk was funny, and my favorite part was when the Grandmother hit the wolf over the head. I enjoy how she stuck up for her self and her granddaughter, also the part where the mother gets interrogated and admits she is jelous of her own daughter. That part was key, and I thought it worked with the story flawlessly.

I was really impressed with Karyn Choromanski's version of "The Three Little Pigs" because she incorporated the Falcon symbols of the Polish organization she belongs to. Each Falcon was clearly and cleverly represented (physical, mental, and social) in the story. It was a nice touch to add a riddle, which I had heard before and it drove me crazy when I could not solve it. Before I read the artist's statement, I also thought of how a human can be a wolf to nature in that we inhabit their environment for our own comfort and of course we kill and eat animals. In the story the human was invading the space of nature. This story was well thought out.

Eric Baba's sotry, Little Red Hood was cleverly written and definitely entertaining. In the very beginning of the story I did notice how the mother angrily told her daughter to bring aspirin to her grandmother but I had no idea what it would come to. The aim was to make it more modern and realistic and I thought it was interesting when Red said she did not know wolves talked. By adding that it was almost like poking fun at the versions where LRRH did not even think twice that a WOLF was actually talking to her. Kids would definitely enjoy this story because of the great twist but the story does still carry lessons that kids could learn from.

There are a few elements in the original versions of Cinderella that I wanted to remain constant in my story. There was still jealousy, sibling rivalry, and the idea of being rewarded for kindness and having a good heart. I did try to add a different look on the father in that Cindy and Red's father loved and treated them both equally but it was in Red's MIND that her father loved her sister more.
Usually in the Cinderella stories, she is the most beautiful but in my story Red was actually more attractive but in the end she still did not "win." The point was to show the audience that it is not enough to be beautiful, it is more promising and rewarding to be humble, kind and not envy others rather be confident and grateful for what you have.

SHIRLENE UREÑA
CINDERELLA VERSION: “LADY IN RED”

Once upon a time there was a girl named Marissa. She was very beautiful but also poor who grew without a father. . His family objected to his decision of marrying Marissa’s mother because she did not belong to a wealthy family. He went off and married a frivolous woman named Elvira of whom he had two daughters named Cleopatra and Filomina.
When Marissa turned 18, she decided that she was going to find a job so that her mom could stay at home and care for her elderly grandparents. One of her neighbors told her that in the house she worked in, they were in need of a maid and that the pay was really well. Marissa showed up bright and early in the house of Mr. John and Mrs. Elvira Smith. Mr. John immediately felt a special call towards Marissa that he couldn’t Elvira soon noticed it and it made her go mad against the poor maid. She made it her and her daughter’s duty to make Marissa’s life in the Smith’s family impossible. Poor Marissa had to do all the chores. The Smith ladies saw every opportunity to humiliate her. When Marissa served the meals they would purposefully throw it on the floor or at times shove it in her face. They would then laugh hysterically as they watched Marissa filthy with food from head to toes cleaning the floor on her hands and knees.
John’s best friends invited him and his family to the celebration of his son’s 30th birthday. Charlie, the name of the young man was returning from a trip around the world Cleopatra and Filomina were very excited but not nearly as was their mother. Elvira knew, that Charlie was not only handsome but he belonged to a wealthy family and she wanted to ensure the future of one of her daughters and who better than him to be the one
Well, the news of the celebration was quickly spread around the house and of this Marissa was very excited so she went home and told her mom. He r mom said that she would accompany Marissa, for she wanted to ask to Mr. Smith permission to go to the party since she’d never gone to one in her life. When Marissa and her mom met with Mr. Smith, Marissa’s mom realized that her daughter was working for her FATHER! Mr. Smith was in shock as well and so they stepped outside the kitchen where no one would see them and Marissa’s mom confessed the truth to Mr. Smith. “You have to help your meet Charlie. It’s the least you can do for her after all these years of abandonment”
And so Mr. Smith secretly bought Marissa a beautiful red satin dress with silver shoes and gorgeous jewelry. He also bought her a beautiful diamond bracelet. The day of the birthday arrived. The Smith daughters were very excited being, for they’d soon meet Charlie. Marissa had to help them with their hair and makeup as the two sisters were making fun of her: “Ha, you are never gong to meet Charlie or anyone close to him. You are nothing but an ignorant who works as a servant. You have no life and you’ll always be destined to live in misery". But little did they know what was going to lie ahead for them.
After the Smith family left to the birthday, Marissa took off her dirty clothes and transformed herself into the most beautiful lady there ever was in town. She not only looked beautiful in her red dress, but the jewelry made her sparkle. She took a taxi and arrived at the party. All eyes were on her. Charlie was immediately by her side and danced with her the whole night as everyone asked who beautiful lady in red was. The Smith’s didn’t realize that it was Marissa except for John whose heart was filled with joy. Marissa was so happy that she didn’t realize that in an hour the party was going to be over and she needed to get home soon so that the Smith ladies wouldn’t suspect a thing.
. Marissa left the partly abruptly without giving the young bachelor her name her. As she was leaving her bracelet came loose and Charlie picked it up. That was the only thing that he had of the beautiful lady in red. The next day the bachelor set a search to find the lady whose wrist fit the diamond bracelet. Charlie went to every house in town but couldn’t find his beloved lady in red.
Finally he arrived at the Smith’s house. The family was called to the living room. Cleopatra tried on the bracelet first, but her wrist was too thick. Filomina tried on the bracelet bur her wrist was too tiny. Elvira was fuming for her daughters future went down the drain. Charlie was heading out with deep sadness when Mr. Smith said “Wait, there is one more person”, and he went to the kitchen and brought Marissa out to the living room. When Charlie asked Marisa to try on the bracelet, he saw that it fir perfectly. He looked straight at her and realized that she was the beautiful lady he’d fallen in love with. Mr. Smith confessed that Marissa was her daughter and that he hated his wife for being so wicked and divorced her. A month lady Marissa and Charlie got married and lived happily ever after with Mr. Smith and their five children.

I chose to make a slightly modern version of Cinderella, now called “Lady in Red”. I was inspired by the Latin soap operas that I grew watching. They tend to have an air of Cinderella in most of them. I gave the story a more realistic twist. It isn’t very strange for a poor woman to marry a rich man. It’s not strange also to see people that humiliate others based on their economical status. There are also women that are gold diggers, who only want to obtain riches at any cost and without any shame. I decided to have as a “fairy” her father because often times when a father has abandoned his children and decides to mend for his errors, he will do anything to please the abandoned children

"Unfaithfl Mother"

She was the little girl that always had a smile on her face. She would stroll through the town as if she were floating on clouds. She was Marica Lyte’s little girl. Her name was Delight also known as Sunshine. She was the youngest on three girls n her family. Her mother loved her almost more than her other two daughters. She was her pride and joy. One afternoon as Delight was playing out back in the yard her mother called for her to come inside. She never disobeyed or talked back to her mother. She ran into the kitchen to find her mother making sandwiches and placing fruit and meat into the basket on the kitchen counter. Delight was so ecstatic that she eagerly ran to grab a sandwich. “No, Delight these are not for you, your grandmother is feeling ill and cannot go to the store. She asked if I can bring her some food to last her until she can get on her feet, but I Can’t go because you know your father is finally coming home from the war”. “Daddy is finally coming home, when, where, why?”said Delight. “Tonight around night fall and the war is over, if you go now you can be back before he comes” said mother. “Okay mama I will go. Her mother finished the basket and then escorted Delight to the door. “Now don’t talk to strangers go straight there and then come right back, you wouldn’t want to be late when your father gets here now will you?” “No mama” “go on now” said mother. When Delight left out the door her sister Dalia came down the stairs “ where is she going?” said Dalia, she is going to give your grandmother some food, this house is a mess and you know I have to clean up before your father comes home.” “I wanna go” “NO!!!! Only she can go, I mean no I sent her already” said mother. Dalia stormed back upstairs. Marica went outside and looked to see f her daughter was in fact going down the right path. She went back into the house and made a phone call “Yes she on her way now….okay but please don’t hurt my baby….i just need time” She hung up the phone and started her work on the house. Delight was half way to her grandmother’s house when she came across a baby wolf that seemed to be injured. She want closer and the baby wolf said “please little girl go into that house down the road and get my mother I need help. Delight said okay but first she would drop off her grandmother’s food. On the way to her grandmother’s house a man with a red coat approached her sayings “are you going to n my way to do that.” Said the man. When they got to the house her grandmother came to door, it seemed that she was on her way out “Hi grandma you are feeling better, well here is the food you asked for, I have to get back home daddy is finally coming home.” “Did you say your father is coming home?” said grandma. “Yes and he will be there before night fall. I’ll see you later grandma, oh yes this guy is here to how you are doing.” She ran right down the road and when she came across the area where the little wolf was , he was gone. So she went to the house that the baby wolf told her to go to early just to see if he was okay. She knocked on the door to have the baby wolf answer the door, no longer in pain. “Are you okay, did your mommy help you?” “Yes said the baby wolf, well I have to go, bye” and the wolf closed the door. When she was almost to her house she saw the same guy that came to see her grandmother, and he signaled her to come to him. So she did and when she did her grandmother came out of the car, she had a sad look upon her face and she began to cry. The man asked her her name and then told her that her mother told him to take her with him up north. She tried to tell the man that she had to get home to finally meet her father, when the guy went to grab her to put her into the truck she yelled and screamed and kicked. She yelled to her grandmother to help her but her grandmother just cried. The man finally got Delight into the track. And all her grandmother could hear was little jolly, Delight screaming that she wand to se her father. When night fall came Marica waited outside to wait for her husband. When she received a phone call saying “ I have her now you can sleep at night you are not a mother at all and I hope this will make him happy. Be aware this is only temporary and I will be back and then you would have to let him know or else she is a dead little girl” at that moment her husband came into the house. Marica daughters came down to greet their father. “Daddy!!” “ How are my two daughters and wife doing?”

When coming up with a twist for this story of Little Red Riding Hood, i thought that i would like of a time period first to dwell apon. I thought that i should do it around the time slavery was over. (1878) I figured that i should start out as the little red ridinghood and then turn it into a evil mother that will give up their child to satisfy their sigificant other. And then throw a twist and say that it wasnt even the hushands child. I felt that by showing how much the mother cared about Delight then springing out that she really was ashamed that her(mother) actually was the one that made it so by being with a black man.And didnt want her husband to find out.

Brianna Watts commenting on Tracie Bolack: I love this tale : one because i love fashion and to have this story surrounding around that got my attention. Two, i feel that by changing the typical evil women she changed it to a pig-like older man that is trying to pull her down. I like how in the end she accomplished her dreams.

Brianna Watts commentng on Johnathan's tale

I loved the wasy her swiched the role form cinderella being a female to a Male. I feel that it opens my sees to think that their are males out there that face the same disrespect with parents and put up with it. when i think of a boy going through somethin like that he was have ranaway years before it got worst. But in his tale the boy took it like a man and in the end found the real parents. I like how this story was a theme that their is always hope and that no matter what happens in one's life, no matter how bad it my seem or if the road is cloudy at the end their will be a time when the clouds will disappear and one will see the light and will have the last laugh.

Little Red Riding Hood
By William Hill

Once upon a time deep in the woods their lived a little girl who whore a red hood.
As nice and as sweet as you would think she could be she was actually the rudest little thing.
Little Red had no feelings for no one she was spoiled and made fun of who ever she wants.
As horrible a person as anything can be she was going to walk up on the nastiest thing. Big and hairy plus full of rage their prowled a mean wolf in the woods he would stay. Little red riding hood called out her mom grandma is sick and will not live to long.
She will need a few things to make her feel better, this medicine and fruit plus this warm knitted sweater.
In reply to her self red said “I don’t really care about that old hag she lived to long for me to feel sad.”
But just for a journey and to have a run Little Red journey begun.
So Little Red riding hood began on her way jumping and skipping beginning to play.
So deep in the woods the wolf will still sit until he caught in the air a tasty young scent. I’ve been so hungry for days and nights but to day is my luck for this little girl I will bite, ill pretend to be nice without her even knowing until I find out where she is going.
The deeper she walked the darker it gets until she herself began to get nervously sick. Very fast you could hear her heart start to beat about what evil creatures in these woods she would meat.
Out pops the wolf in front of her path, saying hey little girl we meet at last.
Who are you says riding hood and why are you stopping me in the middle of the woods. Well I am the wolf and don’t be scared I just want to know what’s those things you hold in your hands.
In reply red riding hood said things for my grandma or else she will die.
But I’m not scared of a wolf so ugly and old I’m not scared at all I am way to bold.
OR ELSE SHE WILL DIE!!! The wolf would say no time to talk you should be on your way your wasting more time the longer you stay.
In fact you can get their in a dash if only you’d follow this smaller path.
Just follow these dandelions up going north and trust me you’ll find pretty soon you will be at grandmas in a shorter time.
So little red began on her so cocky with more things she wanted to say.
The wolf in a laugh had no delay as he knew exactly a quicker way. She thinks she is so brave we will see in a bit ill get their eat her grandma and in the bed ill sit.
Little red riding began to be cold so out came the sweater she would unfold, I don’t feel bad for grandma one bit I’m wearing this sweater before I began to get sick.
So being more selfish while she was hungry and without any reason her small heart began beating all of the fruit for grandma she began eating.
So the sweater and fruit pits in the woods she would drop and drink up all the medicine as she began to get hot. I have nothing for that hag when I get their so instead I hope she will already be dead. But some should be careful what you wish for some will say because in the bed she would find the wolf would lay.
See he got their first and ate the old women so in side of him she lay in his stomach. When little red got there she knocked on the door hoping for no reply
Come in come in she heard a voice cry.
Well grandma what big eyes you have in your head
Well the better to see you why I lay in this bed.
Well grandma what big ears you have on your head they lay
The better to hear the sweet words that you say.
Grandma what big teeth you have
The better to chew the fruit my dear that you have
Well I have no more fruit, nor a sweater or medicine so I don’t want to hear you mourn
Confused the wolf said well at least come in bed to keep me warm.
So in little reds mind she thought well she’ll soon be dead so what difference does it make if for five minutes I lay in bed.
But as soon as she jumped in the sooner she was eaten and the wolf lay their stomach full from grandma and Little Red Riding Hood.

Red through the Forest
Eng 217

One day there was a girl, little red riding hood. She lived in the forest with her mother. Little red received a call form her grandmother one day, her grandmother had told her “I am not feeling well at all. Can you come by and keep Granny company? Oh and don’t forget your mother famous muffins.” Little red agreed and replied “Of course Granny I will be right over.” So little reds mother packed a basket full of muffins and off little red went into the forest.
There was this wolf called Wolfred and he was a T.V reporter. All of the new information that was out he knew before any other reporter. There was this case about a missing object, a diamond. Wolfred really wanted to find it and be the first to know.
One day Wolfred went for a walk in the forest and happens to come across a little girl in red walking in the forest. He thought it was a little fishy because a girl with a hood and a covered basket was walking and she was all by herself. He thought to himself “This girl looks a little suspicious. I think I should talk to her and ask her a couple of questions.” So Wolfred quickly jogs to little red and says to her “Hello little girl. Can I ask you a couple of questions?” she replies “Why? I didn’t do anything and I don’t know anything.” When little red made that statement Wolfred figured that she had something to do with it because she seemed uptight and very nervous. So from there on is when Wolfred began to follow her secretively to see if she would do anything, go somewhere, or say something that would be out of the norm. He was following her and he didn’t think she knew but she knew he was following right behind her.
Little red begins to walk fast grasping onto her basket and looking around so no one could do anything or ask anything to her. She was just determined to getting to her granny’s house because she gets nervous when she walks in the forest alone. So she says out loud but speaking to herself “Just up that hill is where granny lives, (comforting herself) don’t worry your almost there.” She still can feel Wolfred following her. As Wolfred hears what little red has said aloud he figures that it was just something that she could say to make him leave. But as all reporters do they go ahead and look for the story for themselves.
Wolfred then scatters to the top of the hill and eyes a little house on the top. He tip toes around the house and while he does. He looks through the window to see if anything looks suspicious. He looks through the window and watches an old lady (Granny) lying in bed. She looked really scared. But Wolfred figured if little red was going to her granny’s house that he could act as her and get the supposed diamond that would be in that basket. So he looks through out the house to find an open window and finds one. He opens it and climbs through. Granny Says “Hello, is someone there? Red is that you?” as she is trying as hard as she can to see who is there. So in a girl voice Wolfred says “Yes granny it is me little red.” So granny says “Come Come next to granny give me a hug.” So Wolfred had to think as fast as he could he saw some rope, tools, and tape in the hall. Seemed like it was being used around the house at some point and never placed back where it belongs. So Wolfred quickly got the tape and rope and as he went in to give granny a hug he put tape over her mouth and tied her up. Wolfred then through granny in the closet to hide her from red. He then puts on some of granny’s clothing and gets into her bed. He is very determined to getting that diamond.
So red knocks on the door and enters the house. She then calls out for granny and Wolfred says to come into the room. He then starts to talk to red and she says “Granny why is your voice so deep? Wolfred says “I am sick my throat hurts.” She says “Yes, that can explain it.” Then he says “Oh honey, what did you bring me in the basket is it what I think it is?” She says “Yes it is exactly what you had asked me to bring.” “Really? Please take the cover off so I could see” “No, you get your rest. You can get it later. You need your rest.” So then a sound comes from the closet and red becomes suspicious of the noise. Red hears the noise again but then ignores it. Wolfred keeps asking about the basket and red says “why do you need that basket so bad, don’t you think it is to dark in hear let me open the curtains.” So red opens the curtains and looks at the bed and sees Wolfred in the bed she then begins to scream. He says “No please answer my questions, please!” Red calls the cops and then remembers the noise that came from the closet. She then goes to the closet and finds her grandmother there lying there tied up with tape around her mouth.
That is when Wolfred comes to the conclusion that he is going to get in a lot of trouble for doing what he did. So then he goes to the kitchen quickly to get the basket and red runs as well and she grabs the basket as fast as she could. The police arrive and ask them questions. So the Red told her side and Wolfred told his side and asked the police to look into the basket that he will find a diamond in it, the stolen diamond. They then look into the basket with Wolfred, Granny and red watching. They watch them going through the basket to just find muffins in it. Wolfred pleads to let him free that it was a misunderstanding but it is against the law to break in, stalk and hurt someone. So the police bring Wolfred to jail, he looses his job, and red and granny live happy and safe in their house. Also, check this; Wolfred’s rival T.V Station cracked the case which made him go insane when he found that out in jail.

---- I chose to write Little Red Riding Hood because it is kind of an open set. You can play with different ideas and thoughts. It is easy to make the characters have different roles and different personalities. I chose the style I did because I figured it would be cool to make the wolf not seem as bad in the beginning as other stories do. I also tried to make little red look suspicious so that you can see little by little the evil and greed coming out of the wolf. I sort of had this story in my mind. There was a movie that sort of reminds me of this and writing this my goal was to make it fun and interesting but not to similar as the movie. I enjoyed it so much that I had fun making my own story with the ideas that came from the other stories and the movie that I had watched. So I enjoyed this fairy tale and hopefully the reader does too.
